Urban Sketchers Announces Sponsors for 2015 Urban Sketchers Symposium
Sketchers from around the globe will gather in Singapore July 22 – 25 for the sixth annual Urban Sketchers Symposium. The educational and networking event is organized by Urban Sketchers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the art of on-location drawing. By sketching on location from direct observation, symposium participants will discover Singapore as they explore materials, techniques and concepts through workshops and other activities.
This event is made possible in part by the support of our generous sponsors:
Urban Sketchers is pleased to have PEN.UP as a Symposium sponsor for the second year. PEN.UP is a creative, vibrant social network service that allows sharing of images and pictures with other users. Attend a productive lecture on digital art using Samsung Galaxy Note tablets and drawing apps, and give Galaxy Note tablets a try. In addition, look forward to a drawing event with gifts!
A new sponsor this year, Leuchtturm 1917 manufactures high-quality notebooks, sketchbooks and other products for creative people. Symposium participants will receive Leuchtturm 1917 Whitelines Link notebooks – an innovative analog/digital hybrid. Sketches and handwritten notes can be digitized using a smartphone app with automatic capture. Images can then be shared online. This is an ideal tool for illustrators and sketchers looking to save their work and take their analog drawings easily into the digital realm without hefty scanners or expensive cameras.
Cretacolor is sponsoring the Urban Sketchers Symposium for the third time. Cretacolor offers a broad range of products ideal for sketching, including graphite, colored and water-soluble pencils, water media and calligraphy materials. For the Symposium, Cretacolor will present each participant with a set of six pencils packed in a collectible and functional metal case emblazoned with the Urban Sketchers 2015 Singapore logo.
Moleskine has been our partner for many years as a Symposium sponsor. Moleskine and Urban Sketchers share a love of the analog approach of recording what we see in a notebook and the digital approach of sharing online. Moleskine will provide sketchbooks for Symposium attendees.
Local sponsors supporting the event at the Gold level include Caran d’Ache and Shop Oryx, both of which are providing materials for participants. Shop Oryx offers an alternative shopping experience for artists by providing tools, inspiration and the sharing of artwork. In addition, the Fashion Institute of Technology is sponsoring a Symposium instructor’s transportation.
Founded in 2010, US sketchbook manufacturer Stillman & Birn will sponsor the Urban Sketchers Symposium for the third year. Stillman & Birn’s series of mixed-media sketchbooks offers artists a choice of paper shade, weight and surface most suitable for their techniques.

Fine art oils, acrylics, watercolors and art markers are some of the many interesting products offered. Shin Han art is presenting participants with a selection of Touch Liners ideal for sketching.
First-time sponsor Wörther of Baden-Baden offers exceptional mechanical pencils, pens and other writing instruments. Wörther will give Symposium participants “the Shorty,” a mechanical pencil loved by designers and architects. This pencil is elegant, practical and comfortable in the hand, thanks to its ergonomic hexagonal design. It comes with a 3mm soft 7B graphite lead ideal for writing, drawing, sketching and marking.
